Five Things To Know Today
The Wind Chill, A Concert And Another Question About The Schools

1. Today is Wednesday, Feb. 23. It'll be sunny, but bitterly cold due the wind chill. The National Weather Service predicts a high near 35 degrees, but wind chill values as low as -4 degrees. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 14 degrees.
2. Connecticut College Art History Professor Robert Baldwin will present a slide show and lecture on Gauguin’s Tahiti from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. today at the Groton Public Library. A major exhibition of Gauguin’s work is set to open at The National Gallery of Art in Washington on Feb. 27. The library program is free. For more information, click here.
3. Governor Dannel Malloy has asked President Barack Obama to declare a major disaster in the State of Connecticut –an effort to bring federal financial aid to communities affected by the record snowfall on Jan. 12. Malloy wrote to the President earlier this month, explaining that the winter has been one of the snowiest on record and the state has seen a number of structure collapses.

4. The fourth and fifth grade chorus at Northeast Academy Elementary School will perform its concert from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. today. At 6:30 p.m. today at Pleasant Valley Elementary, there will be a beginner strings demo lesson.
5. We'll continue our discussion about the future of the Groton Public Schools today, and the possibility of consolidating buildings. At 1 p.m. during Moms Talk, we'll consider these questions: "Should Groton close one of its middle schools? And if so, which one?" Please share your thoughts on this important topic.
