Five Things To Know Today

The Groton Town Council, Eighth Grade Parent Night and New England Cycle Works

1.  Today is Tuesday, March 1. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies, with a high near 40 degrees and a brisk wind. Gusts could be as high as 34 mph.  Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 26 degrees.

2.  The Groton Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. today in the Town Hall Annex. Topics include authorizing the town manager to apply for state funding for youth and family service programs, and allowing him to create a contract that continues transportation services for elderly and disabled residents.

3.  Eighth Grade Parent Night is at 6:30 p.m. today in the Fitch High School auditorium. The event offers information to parents about the course selection process and what to expect when their eighth graders start high school.

4.  New England Cycle Works has submitted a site plan application to the Groton Planning Commission to expand the motorcycle dealer's facility at 661 Gold Star Highway. The expansion would use more space in the existing building for retail showrooms, but would not expand the building itself. The plan would not expand the service or repair area.

5.  This week in Moms Talk, we'll discuss another topic connected to the upcoming school construction referendum and the future of Groton Public Schools. The topic will be all-day kindergarten and pre-kindergarten, and whether the town should invest in these early childhood programs. Join us at 1 p.m. on Wednesday to start this conversation. We'll also remind you in Wednesday's daily five.
