Five Things To Know Today

The Aluminum Falcons, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren And An Overview Of Phase II

1.  Today is Thursday, March, 3.  It will be sunny, windy and cold today. The National Weather Service predicts a high temperature near 27 degrees, but wind chill values as low as -2.  Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 13 degrees.

2.  Congratulations to the Aluminum Falcons from Robert E. Fitch Senior High School, who won a $500 grant in the 2011 FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition Northeast Utilities FIRST Connecticut Regional. The Falcons were among 26 high school teams awarded a total of $18,000 in grants in the competition.

3.   A support group for grandparents raising grandchildren meets from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month at the Human Services Building at 2 Fort Hill Rd.  To see the event listing, click here.

4.  The Noank School Reuse Task Force meets at 7 p.m. today in the Town Hall Annex to discuss a future survey of residents. The task force is charged with recommending how to best use the former elementary school property, and plans to ask residents their thoughts.

5.  The Groton Public Schools website has posted an informational outline of the proposed $133 million school construction plan referred to as "Phase II," as well as details about the project. The website addresses questions such as "Why would we want to do this in a bad economy?" and "What happens if Phase II does not pass?" To see the website, click here.
