Five Things To Know Today

Rain, The Budget And Pickleball

1.  Today is Thursday, March 10. The next 48 hours will be wet, according to the National Weather Service. It'll be cloudy with a high temperature near 43 degrees, and a 50 percent chance of rain today. Tonight the rain will continue and the low will be 41 degrees. Rain will be heavier Friday.

2.  Groton Town Manager Mark Oefinger is expected to distribute the proposed budget for the coming fiscal year at the next Town Council meeting on Tuesday, March 15.  A public hearing on the budget will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 28 in the Groton Senior Center.

3.  A family program celebrating Ireland will be held from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the Groton Public Library.  Sue Palmieri, a children’s librarian, will offer Irish stories, music and games. The program is free. For more information, click here.

4.  Pickleball is coming to the Groton Senior Center next month. The game is a combination of badminton, ping pong and tennis, and is played with a hard paddle and wiffle ball. The senior center will offer it indoors at 1 p.m. on Thursday starting in April. The activity is free.

5.  Congratulations to Diana Edmond, Senior Events Manager at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa in Groton, who was named "Manager of the Year" during a recent awards dinner for Waterford Hotel Group.
