Five Things To Know Today

Recreation Fees, Budget Deliberations And Thames Street

1.  Today is Monday, April 4.  The National Weather Service predicts rain, mainly before noon, and a high temperature near 52 degrees. Thre's another chance of showers tonight; otherwise, it'll be mostly cloudy, with a low of 49 degrees.

2.  The Groton City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. today in the city municipal building on Meridian Street, and will discuss park and recreation fees, including fees for the summer playground program. In addition, City Councilor William Jervis is expected to raise the issue of poverty among single mothers in Groton as a topic of discussion.

3.  The Groton Town Council continues its budget deliberations at 6 p.m. today in the Town Hall Annex  on the proposed $121.89 million budget for the coming fiscal year. The proposal includes increased spending for education, debt service and subdivisions like Groton City and Groton Long Point.

4.  The proposal to rebuild Thames Street will be on the May ballot, so if you'd like to find out more about it, Tuesday evening is one opportunity to ask questions and get details.  The informational meeting will be held from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday in Groton Public Library. 5.  Jim Spinnato, a hypnotist and comedian will be perform from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Fitch High School for a fundraiser. The student council is sponsoring his appearance; tickets will be available at the door.
