Five Things To Know Today

School Events, Relay For Life And Addiction Support

1.  Today is Tuesday, April 12.  It'll be cloudy, with a 50 percent chance of showers, according to the National Weather Service.  The high temperature will reach 59 degrees today, and the low will dip to about 44 degrees tonight. Rain is likely this evening.

2.  There are a couple of school events today. The Groton Parent Council meets at 5:30 p.m. at S.B. Butler Elementary School, and the Pleasant Valley Elementary Parent Teacher Organization meets at 6 p.m. at Pleasant Valley. Fitch High School also holds its orchestra and choir concert today at 7 p.m.

3.  The Groton Town Council continues its discussion of the budget, with a meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. today in the Town Hall Annex. The council reviewed proposed spending plans forGroton Long Point and the City of Groton on Monday, and cut requests for road paving.

4.  Relay For Life 2011 holds a planning meeting at 6 p.m. today at the Groton Inn and Suites on Gold Star Highway.  If cancer has affected your life or someone close to you, this is an opportunity to get involved. For more information, see the event listing here.

5.  The Department of Human Services is offering a free, four-week series on alcohol and drug addiction support for people in recovery and their families. The series starts today and includes discussions about addiction, cravings and recovery.  You can attend one session or all of them.  They begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays in the Community Room of the Human Service Building on Fort Hill Road.
