Five Things To Know Today

A Groundbreaking At The Sub Base, Charter Oak Federal Credit Union And A Spring Lullaby Concert

1.  Today is Monday, May 9.  The National Weather Service predicts partly sunny skies, with a high temperature of 67 degrees and a low of 46 tonight. 

2.  Representative Town Meeting resumes its discussion of the town budget at 7 p.m. today in the Groton Senior Center. The group will take up the budgets for the departments of human services and parks and recreation.

3.  The Naval Submarine Base will hold a groundbreaking at 9 a.m. Thursday at Nimitz Hall to mark the start of construction on the Submarine Bridge Trainer Facility.  Gov. Dannel Malloy is expected to attend the event.

4.  Groton's Charter Oak Federal Credit Union has appointed Guy Henry, of Oakdale, the new chairman of the board of directors to take over for Pierre Brochu, who held the post for 17 years. Henry previously served as the board's vice chairman. Melvin Olsson, of Mystic, will become the new vice chairman. Olsson has served on the board since 1995.

5.  Groton Public Library is holding a free "Spring Lullaby Concert" at 6:30 p.m. today for children and their families, which includes music and stories read by local community members. The library is also opening an art exhibit of work by preschool students from Claude Chester, Charles Barnum and S.B. Butler schools this evening.
