Five Things To Know Today
Tax Payments, Eastern Point Beach and Students Interning For The Mystic Schooners

1. Today is Tuesday, May 31. The National Weather Service predicts partly sunny skies, a high temperature of 76 degrees and a chance of showers tonight. The low will drop to about 56 degrees.
2. Groton has signed an agreement with Citizens Bank/Fidelity Information Services to use a lock box service to handle tax payments and other bills. Under the arrangement, residents will send their payments to Groton’s Tax Division through a P.O. Box in Boston, Mass., where the bank will then retrieve the bills, sort them and deposit them into the town’s account. The service costs less than $10,000, and will make the process more efficient, allowing staff to handle other tasks such as back tax collection, according to a statement on the town’s website.
3. Season passes for Eastern Point Beach will be available for sale from 4 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. today through Friday at the Groton City Municipal Building, if you haven’t bought one yet. You’ll need a current car registration to buy a season pass. If your registration doesn’t show a city address, you can use a utility bill, tax bill, property deed or current lease to prove residency.
