Five Things To Know Today
Tobacco Products, Host Families And The Annual Sea Music Festival

1. Today is Wednesday, June 1. The National Weather Service predicts mostly sunny skies, with a high temperature near 75 degrees. There's a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mostly after 3 p.m. and into the evening. The low will drop to about 59 degrees tonight.
2. The Groton Adolescent Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition will hold a press conference at 3:30 p.m. today in the Groton Public Library to talk about the prevalence of tobacco products and advertising in town. Speakers will include Robin Cox, prevention services coordinator for the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and Pat Checko, chairman of Mobilize Against Tobacco for Children’s Health.
3. The New England Collegiate Baseball League's Groton team, The Mystic Schooners, is still looking for host families for some of its players. Twenty-eight players will arrive in Groton a week from today, and the team needs host families for about a dozen of them. 4. Mystic Seaport will host the 32nd Annual Sea Music Festival from June 9 through June 12. The event brings in musicians from countries such as Iceland, Poland, the Netherlands, Africa and Australia to perform maritime music from around the world. Events will include a concert by the Northern Neck Chantey Singers, a group of six men who worked on fishing boats in the Chesapeake Bay, and a whaleboat race between an Azorean crew and a local American crew.
5. The Dime Bank Foundation has provided a $1,000 award to help pay for a special bathing tub for residents at Fairview Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut. Fairview is a 120-bed nursing and rehabilitation facility in Groton.
