
1. Today is Tuesday, June 7. The National Weather Service predicts a chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, with a high temperature of 77 degrees and a low of 62 tonight. It'll be partly cloudy this evening, with showers possible.
2. The Groton Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. and is expected to set a tax rate of 18.89 mills for the coming fiscal year. Representative Town Meeting approved a budget of $118.48 million, of which $75.45 million must be raised through local property taxes. The Council is also expected to establish the tax rate for the Mumford Cove District and the Groton Sewer District Fund.
3. The Town Council is scheduled to vote tonight on a resolution supporting the creation of a national memorial in Washington D.C. honoring black soldiers who fought in the American Revolution. Maurice Barboza wants to create the national memorial, and has asked Connecticut communities for their support. Of the black soldiers known to have fought in the American Revolution, 24 came from Groton.

4. The 2011 Relay For Life of New London County shoreline holds its planning committee meeting from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. today at the Groton Inn and Suites. 5. The Groton Senior Center is running a six-week workshop called “It’s Your Life…Live It Well”, from July 7 until August 11. The event is a couple of weeks away, but sign ups are now. Sessions will be held from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., and the program is designed for adults ages 55 and older who want improve their lives by getting a handle on health issues.
