
1. Today is Monday, July 25. The National Weather Service predicts cloudy skies, a high temperature of 76 degrees and a chance of showers or thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The low will drop to 62 degrees tonight.
2. A Mystic man wants to create a Family Paintball Park at 715 Noank Ledyard Road in Mystic. Thomas Vignato filed a wetlands application July 22 to construct a 900-foot wood chip trail in the wetlands area and 7,100-foot wood chip trail nearby. He's calling the project “Fields Of Fire Paintball.”
3. Groton Utilities wants to install about 2,800 feet of water main piping along Route 1, between the intersection of Noank Ledyard Road and Judson Avenue, according to a wetlands application filed July 19. The 12-inch main is intended to improve water service to 133 residents on Rhonda Drive, Sharon Road, Farmstead Avenue, Judson Avenue, Somersett Drive, Swan Lane and Shelby Court. “In the past ten years, there have been five water main breaks in this area,” the application said. When the pipes break, they potentially shut down service to the homes and to seven fire hydrants.

4. A mobile state assistance program will be in Groton from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Groton Human Services building on Fort Hill Road. The Rx-Xpress Bus offers help with programs including food stamps, Medicare, Medicaid, Husky Insurance and prescription assistance. Appointments fill up quickly; if you need one, call (860) 441-6760.
5. More than 3,800 people have watched The Mystic Schooners play ball since they started this season, with an average attendance of 255 per game, according to the team website. They have the lowest attendance in the league as a new team, however. The Schooners play a double header tonight, with seven-inning games starting at 4 p.m. at Fitch High School.
