Five Things To Know Today

Tax Bills, Concerts And Summer Fun Fridays

1.  Today is Thursday, July 28.  The National Weather Service forecasts sunny skies, a high temperature of 82 degrees and possible thunderstorms tonight. The low will dip down to 67 degrees.

2.  Real estate and motor vehicle tax bills went out late this year - on July 5 - so they may be paid up until Aug. 5. State law provides that the taxes are due within 30 days of mailing, which means they would become delinquent on Aug. 6. Personal property tax bills were mailed on time, so they become delinquent on Aug. 2.

3.  The Summer SoundWaves concert series continues tonight at Esker Point Beach. Concerts are from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and tonight the group Never Enuff performs. Parking is available for $10 at the beach, or you can catch a shuttle at Fitch High School. The concert itself is free.

4.  Groton Public Library is running a program called "Summer Fun Fridays" from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the library. Activities include games, crafts and dancing. If you stop in this week, bring two cups of any chopped fruit for a fruit salad feast. The program is free and open to all ages.

5.  Cathy's Rottie Rescue, of North Stonington, is holding a fundraiser called "Dave Reilly's Comedy Adventure Tour!" at 7:30 on Saturday Aug. 13 at Shennocossett Yacht Club in Groton. The rescue group works with all breeds, but specializes in Rottweilers. The event asks for a $25 donation; to find out more or get tickets, contact Cindy Tischer at mccinny@sbcglobal.net.
