
1. Today is Thursday, Aug. 18. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies, a high temperature of 80 degrees and a low of 67 tonight. There's a chance of thunderstorms this evening.
2. The Groton Boating Advisory Board has developed a map of water properties that allow public access. Residents can check online and get information about each of the properties and directions, at http://maps.groton-ct.gov/wateraccess/.
3. The new headquarters of the Submarine Learning Center in Groton will be dedicated Friday to Capt. John P. Cromwell, who fought in World War II and received the medal of honor. Cromwell was aboard the USS Sculpin in November, 1943 when the submarine was hit. Sailors were told to abandon the ship, but Cromwell stayed as it sank to prevent the enemy from getting information, according to a news release from the Naval Submarine Base New London. His family members will be present at the dedication event at 2 p.m. Friday.

4. The first of four concerts organized by Chamber Music Mystic will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the Mystic Arts Center. Friday's performance is by Accademia Virtuosi and includes Latin Rymthm, piano, violin and cello. Performances by other groups are Aug. 23, 26 and 28. Tickets are available at Bank Square Books on West Main Street, and are $20 for a concert or $60 for the series.
5. Groton Public Library will start its book sale during library hours on Friday throught Wednesday, Aug. 24. The sale will be held in the library's meeting room, and offers deals on used books, DVDs, CDs and other donations made to the library.
