
1. Today is Friday, Sept. 2. The National Weather Service forecasts sunny skies with a high temperature of 75 degrees and a low of 57 tonight.
2. The Office of Emergency Management, the Community Emergency Response Team members and the American Red Cross are again offering a free, hot meal from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and free, hot showers from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Senior Center. This is the last night for the free meals. The showers may continue to be available; a decision is expected to be made on that today. The respite center provided 98 showers and 171 meals Thursday.
3. Groton ordered 5,000 ready-to-eat meals along with bottled water and ice, which will be available for distribution from noon until 6 p.m. today at Poquonnock Plains Park on Route 1.

4. The Department of Consumer Protection issued a reminder Thursday that people who take insulin or drugs that must be refrigerated should replace them if they were not stored properly during the power outage. Joseph Sastre, manager of emergency communications, said the Groton Senior Center is also seeing residents who rely on medical devices that require elecrticity. About 25 to 30 people have stopped in to charge batteries for these devices, he said.
5. Colonial re-enactors will gather at Fort Griswold on Sept. 3 as part of Fort Griswold Day, a daylong event to remember the 230th anniversary of the Battle of Groton Heights. The event will include military skirmishes, horses, crafters and the Nutmeg Fife and Drums.
