Five Things To Know Today

The Groton Senior Citizens Club, The Town Budget And A Lecture On Texting And "Sexting"

1.  Today is Tuesday,  Jan. 25. The National Weather Service is forecasting a chance of light snow before 10 a.m., then mostly cloudy skies with a high near 37 degrees. The weather service is predicting the next real storm Wednesday, with rain, snow and sleet expected.

2.  Superintendent of Schools Paul Kadri will hold an informational meeting for parents at 6 p.m. at Claude Chester Elementary School, to discuss the various aspects of the proposed $133 million school construction program.

3.  The Groton Senior Center will hold a luncheon to formally install the new officers of the Groton Senior Citizens Club, who are elected once a year. The club has more than 900 members and supports recreational and other programs for seniors and others in the community. The luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m., followed by the ceremony. Wally Post, the newly-installed president, will speak.

4.  The Groton Town Council will hold a special committee of the whole meeting at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex. Topics to be discussed include the City of Groton highway budget and the town budget for the coming fiscal year.

5.  Francis J. Carine, Supervisory Assistant State's Attorney, will give a lecture at 7 p.m. in the Groton Public Library about texting, "sexting",  the laws that apply, and how to protect youth.  This program is sponsored by the town's Department of Human Services.
