Clear Skies, Snow Day In August, Power Outage All Over

1. Today is Monday, August 29. The weather is forecast to be sunny with a high temperature around 78 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low temperature around 57 degrees.

2. Groton school teachers were scheduled to return to school for professional development but that has been postponed to Wednesday. The regularly scheduled teacher's orientation will be Tuesday and the first day of school for first through 12 grades is Thursday, Sept. 1. Pre-school, pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten begin school Tuesday, Sept. 6.

3. Pfizer Kids, the early childcare center on High Rock Road is closed today.

4. At the height of the storm, the Red Cross emergency shelter at Fitch High School accepted 79 people though they could have accommodated 350. As of Sunday night, the animal shelter accepted eight dogs, eight cats, one guinea pig, a rabbit and a small, blue-colored fish.

5. Connecticut Light and Power reports 92 percent of its customers in Groton have lost power.
