Mostly Sunny Skies, MREs And First Day Of School For Just A Few

1. Today is Thursday, Sept. 1. The weather is forecast to be mostly sunny, with a high temperature near 77 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight will partly cloudy, with a low around 57 degrees.

2. Meals, ready-to-eat (MRE), bottled water and ice are available at Poquonnock Plains Park on Route 1 across from the entrance to Grasso Technical High School today.

3. The Marine Science Magnet School is having its first day of school ever today. Be on the lookout for kids and buses.

4. The Groton Public schools had to delay the first day again because four of the schools do not have power. The teachers' opening day has been postponed to Friday, Sept. 2, school for most grades begins Tuesday, Sept. 6. Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten begin Tuesday, Sept. 9.

5. The Office of Emergency Management, the Community Emergency Response Team members and the American Red Cross are hosting free, hot meals from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and free, hot showers from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. again tonight at the Senior Center. Last night they served 146 meals, 108 showers.
