Five Things To Know Today, Sept. 19

A Polygraph Machine, Speed Signs And New Library Furniture

1.  Today is Monday, Sept. 19.  The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies, a high temperature of 68 degrees and a low of 53 tonight.

2.  One of Groton's police officers is taking a course to learn how to use a polygraph machine, and other police departments will collaborate with Groton to buy such a device using state money, according to the town manager's report. Groton Police Officer Matt Hammerstrom is taking a 10-week class to become a certified polygraph examiner. Other departments are also sending officers to the class. Once the polygraph is purchased, it will be used in criminal cases and in testing police department applicants.

3.  Two portable signs that tell drivers their speed have been posted at Poquonnock Plains Park and Allyn Street. The signs serve two purposes, according to the town manager’s report: They remind drivers to slow down and identify problem areas in town for speeding. The signs will be moved to different locations in town.
