Five Things To Know Today Tuesday, March 22

Turtle Art Contest, Edible Books, And The Quiet Man

1.  Today is Tuesday, March 22. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies today, with high temperatures in the upper 40s. Tonight will be partly cloudy and cold, with low temperatures in the upper 20s.

2.  The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection and Friends of Sessions Woods are having a turtle art contest for children as part of the Year of the Turtle awareness campaign. The painting or sketch must be of a species native to Connecticut, and judges will choose winners in three age groups: kindergarten through first grade, second through third grade, and fourth through fifth grade. 3.  The Fifth Annual "Edible Books Festival" is a week and a half away, but the deadline for entries is coming up. The event is a collection of edible items based on books; the entry can look like a book, a character in a book, a be otherwise related to a story. Entries must be submitted by Friday, March 25, at Bill Memorial Library, Groton Public Library or Mystic and Noank Library. The festival takes place at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 3.

4.  The Groton Public Library's Classic Cinema program will show the John Wayne film "The Quiet Man" at at 2 p.m. today in the library. The movie is about a retired boxer who finds love in Ireland. The program is free. For more information, click here.

5.  This spring's Maritime Author Series begins at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mystic Seaport Museum. Tickets are $50 for members or $65 for non-members, and talks will be held in the G.W. Blunt White Building at the Seaport. For more information, click here.
