Groton Firm Awarded $2.4 Million Contract

The U.S. Navy has awarded a $2.4 million contract to a Groton contractor to build a replacement boiler at the Naval Submarine Base.

The project, which is state funded, was awarded to KMK Construction.

“We are thrilled that the contract for this project has been awarded to a Connecticut firm that has agreed to use all local subcontractors,” Governor Dannel P. Malloy said in a prepared statement Friday. 

“These are Connecticut jobs that will help support the Connecticut economy, while enhancing the military value of the submarine base. It’s a win-win for us.”

Malloy said state and federal investments in the base make it more likely the base will endure over time.

The base accounts for about 15,000 jobs, and contributes billions to the state economy annually, the governor's office said.
