Groton Long Point Tax Increases Not Excessive, Judge Says: Report

Residents say the town taxed Groton Long Point properties but not other neighborhoods in town.

GROTON, CT — To the disappointment of Groton Long Point residents, judge Ingrid Moll has ruled that tax increases levied by the town after a 2011 revaluation were not excessive, reports The Day. Moll decided that the formula used to assess properties was valid and the tax on properties was not "manifestly excessive."

The tax was levied on approximately 600 properties. Residents sought reimbursement for the taxes, costs interests and attorneys fees.

Plaintiffs say the town inflated property values, and arbitrarily added 35 percent to buildings in Groton Long Point but not other neighborhoods in town.
