We asked Patch readers what they thought the biggest safety issues were in their town. Here’s a list of the most pressing problems, from break-ins to traffic jams:

  • "People who speed down Clarence B. Sharp. Generate some revenue and hand out tickets."
  • "Gold Star Bridge. You take your life in your hands trying to change lanes. Slow down people!"
  • "The bushes at the end of the parking aisles at Stop and Shop plaza."
  • "The opiate epidemic and the fallout of robberies and other crimes from it, because there are so few services for recovery."
  • "Gold Star Bridge, for sure! I got passed today by someone doing at least 80 mph. It's so dangerous and hardly ever any police. Totally needs to be patrolled constantly."
  • A "No Turn on Red " at the traffic light at the corner of Lamphere and Cow Hill Road. Stopping at that light, you can't see down far enough to the left to turn right safely."
  • "The traffic light near Starbucks when you leave Big Y. I have almost gotten hit twice now with people blowing straight through the light as I have the green light to turn left."
  • "The roads are lousy. Already popped one tire."
  • "Gold Star Bridge! I almost got hit. People fly, switch lanes without looking and not using their blinker(s), which leads me to think that these "drivers" are on their own race track! Too many accidents on that bridge, no matter what the weather is. I agree with the bridge being patrolled more! So, please slow down out there and drive with caution! Safe your life and others!"
  • "People trying to cross the street at the Bridge Market. People are in the crosswalk but cars rarely stop for them."
  • "Risk of heart attack caused by an over abundance of stress caused by ever rising taxes in town of Groton."
  • "The traffic light at North Road and Route 184. It needs a left turn signal to turn onto 184 from North Road!"
