Meridian Street House Catches Fire
Blaze Initially Reported As Kitchen Fire In Single Family Home
A house on Meridian Street caught fire this afternoon but was brought under control within 15 minutes, the Groton Fire Department said.
No one was injured, and the family was out of the house at 220 Meridian Street before firefighters arrived, Deputy Chief John Cunningham said. There were no animals inside that he was aware of, he said.
The fire was initially reported as a kitchen fire, but smoke and flames were seen coming out of the eves when firefighters arrived. Cunningham said it took them about 15 minutes to get the fire under control. He said he does not believe the house will be habitable. Family members stood outside and wept.
