New London Teens To Be Tried As Adults In Groton Shooting – Report

The teens assaulted and robbed a victim in a Groton parking lot.

Groton, CT—New London resident Cevon T. Riley appeared in New London Superior Court on Oct. 12. to face charges of first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and carrying a pistol without a permit. The robbery took place on Oct. 10 in the parking lot of the 99 Restaurant & Pub in Groton.

Riley, 17, and two other teens are alleged to have assaulted and robbed a victim who arrived to sell them marijuana. In the process, Riley shot the victim, who was also 17.

One of the other teens, Renso Gonzalez of New London appeared in court on Oct. 11 and plead not guilty to charges of first-degree robbery and accessory to first-degree robbery.

Both teens are being judged in adult court rather than juvenile court, due to the gravity of the charges.

The police found the victim in the Groton parking lot and took him to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment. A bullet fractured several bones in the victim’s hand and lodged near his spine, where doctors decided it was too close to be safely removed.

Gonzalez and Riley reportedly fled with a third man.
