New Sub Commander Takes Charge Of Empty Nest

Submarines Charge Toward Hurricane Irene Just Before Change Of Leadership

Rear Adm. Michael McLaughlin turned over his command to Rear Adm. Richard Breckenridge Friday morning, just as Hurricane Irene was barreling up the East Coast and most submarines in Submarine Group Two had already left the base to size up the threat.

The change of leadership ceremony took place at the Shepherd of the Sea Chapel and although many distinguished guests were there, the guest speaker, Vice Adm. John Richardson, Commander of Submarine Forces was unable to attend the event.

"John you are the perfect person to lead as commander of Su marine Group Two. The first test of your command is making its way up the Eastern Seaboard, scheduled to arrive on time."
