Cats And Dogs From All Over Were Blessed Sunday
St. David's Episcopal Church blessed pets from around the region during a special service Sunday. The service is based on the philosophy of St. Francis of Assisi, the Catholic saint of animals and the environment, and is meant "to remember how he felt about animals and that they are god's creatures," according to St. David's Episcopal Church interim priest Blake Wamester. The annual service is open to all animals, Wamester said. The most far-flung or exotic animal he has ever blessed was a rabbit, but he has heard that horses and guinea pigs have been in attendance in years past. "If my grandaughter were here, she'd have me bless her snails," he said.
