Downed Wires From Early Morning Crash Closed Road All Day

Ledyard Police Lt. Michael Finkelstein said Route 117 was reopened shortly after 4:30 p.m. today after being closed for most of the day by downed wires near the Groton-Ledyard line, the result of an early morning crash.

Route 117 (North Road) was closed throughout the day from Gales Ferry Road to Lambtown Road, as utility crews from CL&P worked to repair the downed wires.

Center Groton Dep. Chief Fire Patrick Fearnbaugh told WTNH Channel 8 News that the driver clipped a utility pole with his pickup, causing numerous wires to come down, then attempted to flee the scene.
