An Unusual Way to Fight a War

There will be a slide show and Book Launch program on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, 6:30pm at Palmer's Provisions at 17 Pearl Street in Noank, CT. It will feature local author and historian Captain John Wilbur speaking about The US Coast Guard sailing pickets during WWII.

The book is titled "An Unusual Way to Fight a War: At Sea with the Offshore Patrol." Captain Wilbur, a Noank native and graduate of Kings Point, is the skipper of the New London-Orient Point Ferry. He is the Historian of the Noank Historical Society and a frequent contributor to its publication, The Ledger.

Refreshments will be available from the Palmer's Menu.

The Master of Ceremonies and Host will be Stephen Jones, Professor Emeritus, University of Connecticut Maritime Studies. The public is welcomed for this event.
