VIDEO: Reenactors Camp In Groton Before Marching 700 Miles

Group Will Commemorate The 230th Anniversary Of The March Of General Rochambeau's French Army In 1780

A  group of reenactors arrived this week at the Jabez Smith House in Groton to camp before setting off to commemorate the 230th anniversary of the march of General Rochambeau's French Army in 1780 - a trail of more than 700 miles.

The small but determined group, which includes students from across the country participating as part of the National Civilian Community Corps, will drive to Newport, R.I. on Saturday morning to begin the march. Michael Fitzgerald, the curator of Groton's Jabez Smith House, walked the trail in 2006.

Local residents are invited to come and meet the marchers today and Friday from noon to 7 p.m.
