First of 375 Seedlings 'Takes Root'

On Friday, April 26, the Henry Whitfield Museum played host to a ceremonial tree planting of the first of 375 trees that were distributed to residents that afternoon in honor of Guilford's upcoming 375th Birthday.

On Arbor Day this past Friday, The Guilford Conservation Commission kicked off their 375 tree give-away with a ceremonial tree planting at the Henry Whitfield Museum. The first of the 375 White Oak Saplings was planted at 10 AM and several Guilford officials and other town representatives spoke at the event.

"To be here at this iconic location not only for Guilford, but also for Connecticut and New England, is such a great honor,"  said Laura Collins, a member of the Guilford Conservation Commission. "We are excited about kicking off the event his way, and we hope the seedling distributed will be a reminder of our town's great history."

"If you do adopt a seedling today, make sure it's more than just a twig in your backyard," continued Collins. "Give it a name, keep track of it's progress, let us know about its growth- really adopt it."

Economic Development Coordinator and 375th Birthday Committee member, Brian McGlone also spoke about the meaning of the ceremonial planting.

"This represents what we hope happens with our 375th Birthday," said McGlone. "We want people to reach out and get involved. We want to thank the commission for stepping out and doing this. This is going to be an exciting year for Guilford and there are so many people working hard to make it all happen. This is a great start."
