Respected Ex Guilford, East Haven Fire Official Passes Away

A man who proudly served two area fire departments - Wayne Vetre - has passed away.

Vetre was an East Haven firefighter for a decade and serve as Guilford’s assistant chief for 15 years. His son is a member of the New Haven Fire Department.

News of Vetre’s passing was shared on social media Friday night by the East Haven Fire Department, who had this to say:

It is with a heavy hearts we pass along the passing of retired East Haven Firefighter Wayne Vetre.

“After leaving East Haven Brother Vetre serve the Guilford Fire Department as Assistant Chief before becoming Chief of the Wells Fire Department in Maine until the time of his passing.

“Wayne will always be remembered as a dedicated, knowledgeable firefighter and chief who emphasized on safety and preventive measures to keep his fellow firefighters and their families safe.

“He lived by his belief that you don’t bring contaminants home to your families. A true firefighters firefighter. Rest easy brother the fire service has lost an icon.”
