Guilford to Honor its Veterans with Commemorative Signs

A group of volunteers have set up a fundraiser to install the signs in time for Veterans Day.

John Henningson, a Vietnam war veteran and a group of other volunteers have started a fundraiser to purchase and install signs for the nearly 800 veterans in Guilford, the New Haven Register reports.

The funds raised will be used to purchase yard signs for the veterans, which cost about $5 each and will say, “Guilford Salutes its Veterans”. The signs will be installed in November to celebrate Veterans Day.

According to the Register, Henningson initially approached Guilford’s 375th Anniversary Celebration Committee to help with the initiative and the committee donated some funds to get the project started. So far, Henningson has raised $500 of the needed $3,400.

Henningson told the paper he wanted to do something to honor his fellow veterans and several older veterans had told him they were excited about the project.

If you wish to donate, checks can be made out to “Guilford Salutes its Veterans” to 77 Chimney Corner Circle, Guilford, CT 06437 or by calling Henningson at 203-458-0291.
