How Did Your District Vote on Guilford's Budget?

A snapshot of what the passing of the 2013-2014 fiscal year budget means to Guilford taxpayers, and how your district voted on the ballot items.

Tuesday night, Guilford voters approved at referendum the 2-13-2014 Fiscal Year Town budget, totaling $85,369,285. This is a 2.61% increase over this year's budget. For residents, this is a mill rate increase of .70 mills, or 3.12%, making the new mill rate 23.06. See ballot questions below for details on the bonding projects.

Voters also approved all five bonding projects which, for the town, include "road elevation projects, upgrade town property and purchase new emergency services equipment," a press release from the town stated. Bonding projects for the Board of Education "include replacement of windows and doors at Cox, security upgrades among the schools and other health and safety projects," according to the release.

The items that were voted on broke down as follows, with voters given the option to select 'yes' or 'no':

#1: Shall the town of Guilford approve the proposed budget for the fiscal year July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014, as recommended by the board of finance to the annual town budget meeting or as reduced thereby? Passes 1,378 to 933.

#2: Shall the town of Guilford appropriate $1,235,000 for town property improvements, and issued bonds and notes in the same amount to finance the appropriation? Passes 1,291 to 1,018.

#3: Shall the town of Guilford appropriate $2,310,000 for emergency services equipment upgrades and town equipment acquisitions, and issue bonds and notes in the same amount to finance the appropriation? Passes 1,389 to 921.

#4: Shall the town of Guilford appropriate $2,500,000 for town road reconstruction and road elevation improvements project, and issue bonds and notes in the same amount to finance the appropriation? Passes 1,309 to 873.

#5: Shall the town of Guilford appropriate $1,340,000 for various renovations and upgrades to the town's school facilities, and issue bonds and notes in the same amount to finance the appropriation? Passes 1,485 to 811.

#6: Shall the town of Guilford appropriate $333,000 for costs related to various health and safety improvements to the town's schools, and issue bonds and notes in the same amount to finance the appropriation? Passes 1,588 to 710.
