Tip a Cop April 30, Support Special Olympics CT
This years Tip a Cop will be held at Anthony's in Guilford on April 30 from 4:30 to 9 PM. The event will feature live music, food, local celebrity appearances and a raffle with prizes. All proceeds go to the Special Olympics CT.

The Guilford Police will hold their annual Tip a Cop this year on April 30 in support of the Special Olympics CT. Guilford Police Sgt. Tim Bernier let us know about some of the history of the event.
" Law Enforcement in general has a very strong working relationship with SOCT that culminates each year with the Law Enforcement Torch Run, or LETR that runs the SOCT torch across the state with local Special Athletes and right into the opening ceremonies of the summer games," explained Bernier in an email. " Throughout the year we do several fundraising events to support the games and the athletes. Our cardinal event is Tip a Cop. We host the event each year at Antonys (on the Boston Post Rd) and it will"
This year's event will take place from 4:30 to 9 PMat Anthony's. So what exactly happens at the event?
"Several members of the police department including Ofc Larsen and I will "take over" the restaurant and wait tables," Bernier continued.
100% of the tips collected are donated directly to SOCT and officers who take part in this event do so on a completely volunteer basis as the cause is very important to them.
Bernier and Larsen also spend much of their time collecting items from local businesses to raffle off during the event. This year's raffle will feature almost 40 prices including an overnight stay at Foxwoods with dinner, cases of wine and memberships to local gyms like Crossfit, IMX, Shoreline Fitness, just to name a few.
Other prizes include:
- The food center
- FoodWorks
- The Purple Bear
- Salons services
- Stormy Mountain Candles
- Car care products from NAPA
- Spa gift certificates
- A beach parking pass donated from the Town of Guilford.
- GNC made up a basket though I have not seen it yet.
- Verizon
"We have taken part in this event for several years and Ofc Mat Larsen and I have been running it for the past 3 years and have grown the event each year," Bernier concluded. "All and all its a great night, lots of people, great raffle, GREAT music and all for an amazing cause."
