Hamden Obituaries: Leonard R. Mirto, Sr. 93

Mr. Mirto loved all sports including golf and bowling, and was an avid baseball player, having played for the New York Giants Baseball practice squad and many industrial teams. He idolized Joe DiMaggio.

Leonard R. Mirto, Sr. 93, of Hamden, died March 4, 2013 in New Haven.

He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine Guadagno Mirto and the loving father of Leonard R. Mirto, Jr. of North Haven and Robert J.(Kathleen) Mirto of Northford. He also is survived by his cherished grandchildren Paula Bleakley, Denise Moses, Jody Clouse and great grandchildren Liam and Connor Bleakley, Jacki Moses and Mya and Sylvia Clouse.

He was predeceased by brothers Frank and Gerald Mirto and sisters Margaret Piccarillo, Rose Carfora, Mathilda D'Eramo and Jennie Gentile.

Mr. Mirto was born in New Haven on Aug. 10, 1919, the son of the late Annibale and Mary Pinto Mirto. Leonard retired after 29 years as a salesman with Sears.

His funeral will leave from the Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden, on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Therese Church, North Haven. Burial in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m.
