Obituary: Patrick James Roderick, 54, of Hamden

HAMDEN, CT - (From Sisk Brothers Funeral Home) Patrick James Roderick, 54, of Hamden, beloved husband of 23 years of Joni Beth (Sharkey) Roderick, passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer, surrounded by close friends and family in his home on March 10, 2021.

Patrick was born to Roberta (Mithers) Bonocchi and the late William Bradley Roderick in New Haven, CT in 1966.

In addition to his wife, Patrick is survived by his sons, Connor William Roderick and Samuel Arthur Roderick. His wife and his two boys were his joy and gave his life purpose and meaning.

His children always came first, whether watching travel baseball, taking part in Boy Scouts, vacationing or spending time in his backyard.

Their success, no matter big or small, filled him with pride, and they always felt his love.

Also surviving are brother Christopher Roderick of Wallingford CT, sister, Angel Barrett and her husband Bill of Virginia Beach, VA. His favorite sister-in-law, Janet Sharkey, brother-in-law Gregg Sharkey and his partner Joan Magenheimer, brother-in-law Steven Sharkey and stepfather Joseph Bonocchi.

Patrick was a much-loved uncle to 8 nieces and nephews: Allison (Craig), Gregg Jr., Daniel (Allison), Robert (Amanda), Danielle, Ian, Gavin, and Alexis, and three great nieces and a great nephew. Besides his father, Patrick was predeceased by his Stepfather Robert Mikolinski, stepmother Theresa Roderick and mother-in-law, Joan Sharkey.

Patrick leaves behind many friends with happy memories filled with laughter in response to his quick wit, sarcastic humor, and quiet caring.

Some of Patrick's favorite memories included family vacations to Cape Cod, often with friend of 30 years, Brian Hedge, his husband Mark Terreri, and their children Lucas and Sadie. His last trip to the Cape was this past September to celebrate the completion of a medical treatment.

This trip included his wife, boys, Connor's longtime girlfriend, Lindsey Flonc, his sister-in law and niece Danielle. It was a beautiful bright spot in an otherwise difficult year and brought him great comfort in reminiscing during his last days.

At the time of his passing, Patrick worked as a Strategic Sourcing Specialist at the Connecticut Water Company where he developed many wonderful relationships over the past several years.

Each day with his work family was embraced with enthusiasm and pride.

It was his fervent hope to return and contribute to such a great organization.

Prior to this, Patrick had a successful 20-year career at Modern Plastics where he was the Vice President – Operations.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Calling hours are Monday from 4 - 8 p.m. in Sisk Brothers Funeral Home 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden.
