Obituary: Philomena "Phyllis" Franco Matarese, 90, of Hamden

Phyllis, a caring and selfless woman who always put her family first, was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

HAMDEN, CT - (From Sisk Brothers Funeral Home)Philomena "Phyllis" Franco Matarese, 90, formerly of Hamden passed away Monday, March 1,2021 at the Middlesex Health Care Center.

Loving wife for over sixty years to the late Anthony Matarese. Devoted mother to Michael and Kelly Matarese of Meriden with whom she resided and Peter Matarese of South Carolina.

Loving and doting grandmother to Anthony and Matthew of Meriden and Nicholas and Brian of South Carolina. Sister of Elizabeth "Betty" Franco of Hamden and Michael "Mickey" (Mary Ann) Franco, also of Hamden.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Peter (Sophie) Franco and Benjamin (Rosemary) Franco and sisters Louise (Giro) Amore and Josephine (Aldo) Clini.

She was born August 13,1930 in New Haven a daughter of the late Luigi and Cecilia Landino Franco.

Phyllis was a caring and selfless woman who always put her family first. She did not sit down at the table until everyone else was fed.

Sunday dinner at Gramma's will be forever treasured and missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning at 11:00 in Christ the Bread of Life Parish, Church of the Ascension, 1050 Dunbar Hill Rd., Hamden. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.

Arrangements are with Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden.
