Police: Man Distracts Woman While Another Robs Her Home

A man presenting himself as a tree company worker allegedly helped another man burglarized the Hamden home of an 83-year-old woman Friday as he kept her distracted while the send man stole items from the home, according to police.

Hamden Police Spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith said the department got the report of a burglary on Daniel Road Friday.

According to Smith, a man, described as white, in his 20s, about 5'7" with a thin build and wearing a reflective yellow construction vest knocked on the door of the home at about 6 p.m.

When the elderly woman answered, he told her that he was doing tree work at her neighbor's house and that there was a chance a limb might fall on her property, Smith said.

While they were talking, another person entered the home and stole jewelry and a gun, Smith said. It's likely the two suspects were communicating with each other with portable radios, he said.
