Student Charged In Bomb Threat At Quinnipiac University

A student has been arrested in connection with a bomb threat that was made at Quinnipiac University, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A Quinnipiac University student has been charged in connection with a bomb threat on the campus on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Police responded around 2:15 p.m. on Sept. 4 to Quinnipiac University at 275 Mount Carmel Avenue on the report of a bomb threat, according to Hamden Police Lt. Raymond Quinn.

Quinn said Quinnipiac University Public Safety had received information regarding a post on social media that there was a bomb inside one of the campus buildings.

The Carl Hansen Student Center building was evacuated and the New Haven Police Department Bomb Squad responded to the scene.

Members of the Hamden Police Department Detective Division took over the investigation.

“Through their investigation a suspect was developed and interviewed,” Quinn wrote in a news release. “The suspect admitted to police that he had posted the bomb threat online. A search of the building found no suspicious items. The bomb threat was determined to be a hoax.”

Nkemakoam Okafor, 22, of Rochester, New York, was arrested and charged with first-degree breach of peace. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond with a court date of Sept. 20.

“The Hamden Police Department has a strong working relationship with Quinnipiac University Public Safety and the administration of Quinnipiac University,” Quinn wrote. “This relationship led to a swift, safe and positive conclusion to this unfortunate incident.”
