Women Charged With Larceny, Illegal Prescription Drugs

The two women allegedly stole items from Kohl's, and when police searched their car found illegal prescription drugs, according to police.

Hamden Police arrested two people recently in connection with another shoplifting incident at a Dixwell Avenue store, and this time there were allegedly drugs involved.

On March 26th at about 5 p.m., officers responded to Kohl’s Department Store at  2380 Dixwell Ave. on the report of an unwanted person, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

Officers determined that two women had taken items from the store and put them into their car, Smith said.

"Officer Gabe Garcia subsequently conducted a motor vehicle stop on their vehicle," Smith said in a release on the incident. "Officers recovered $264 in stolen clothing."

The two women, Magailla Philpot, 47, of 71 Norfolk St., West Haven and Cassandra Roberson, 41, 440 Valley St., New Haven, were both taken into custody, Smith said.

Philpot was in the possession of 10 Dronabinol and 13 Marinol capsules, Smith said, and Roberson was in the possession of 29 Cialis and 2 Viagra pills.

Philpot was charged with sixth-degree larceny and possession of a controlled substance. She was held in lieu of $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on April 10.

In addition, Philpot was served three warrants charging violation of probation, failure to appear in court and failure to pay an infraction.

Roberson was charged with first-degree criminal trespass and possession of a controlled substance. She was held in lieu of $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 10.
