Absent CT Judge Agrees To Unpaid Suspension: Reports
Judge Alice Bruno, who collected around $400,000 despite not showing up to work for two years, will be suspended as of June 2.
HARTFORD, CT — Judge Alice Bruno, who was paid more than $400,000 despite not showing up to work for over two years, has agreed to an unpaid suspension following an investigation, according to reports.
Per the agreement, Bruno will accept the suspension as of June 2 and will pursue applying for disability retirement, CT Insider reported. The decision ended the investigation into her conduct that began last year, according to CT Insider.
Her prolonged absence started in November 2019, the Hartford Courant reported in March. Since then, Bruno has missed nearly 2.5 years of work for what she described as "stress-related health problems" according to a separate Hartford Courant article.

She claimed the state judiciary's hostility toward her had created those health problems, which led to her scheduling medical appointments during the court's hours of operation, the Courant said.
Bruno claims the judicial branch wouldn't accommodate her demand to work at a location "reasonably" close to her home in New Britain, the Courant reported.

Judicial records show Bruno is assigned to the Judicial District Courthouse at 300 Grand St. in Waterbury.
