2 Hartford Residents, Glastonbury Resident Charged After Newington Police Swarm Vehicle At Stop & Shop: NPD

A stolen vehicle alert led police to the supermarket Thursday morning, resulting in drug and weapons charges as well.

NEWINGTON, CT — Three suspects were taken into custody in Newington this week after local police followed up on a stolen vehicle alert, finding the trio at a local Stop & Shop supermarket.

As a result, two Hartford residents and one Glastonbury resident are facing drug and larceny charges, among others, following Monday's operation.

According to the Newington Police Department, the suspects have been identified as:

• Galberton Reyes, 45, of Glastonbury. Reyes was charged with conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to appear in court.

He was being held on a $10,000 bond.

• Luis Santos, 54, of Hartford, who was charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, and possession of a controlled substance.

He was being held on a $10,000 bond.

• Yessenia Torres, 36, of Hartford, was charged with conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to appear in court.

She was being held on a $30,000 bond.

All three individuals were held in custody on bond and were scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Friday, Dec. 19, police said.

According to the NPD, on Thursday, Dec. 18, at approximately 9:27 a.m., police received a FLOCK license plate reader notification indicating a reported stolen motor vehicle was traveling southbound on the Berlin Turnpike in Newington.

Newington police officers located the stolen vehicle parked in the parking lot of Stop & Shop on Kitts Lane, police said.

The NPD said officers were able to safely surround the vehicle and take all three occupants into custody without incident.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a facsimile firearm, a fixed-blade knife, narcotics, and drug paraphernalia, police said.
