Children Enjoy Inspirational Day At Hospital In Hartford

HARTFORD, CT — If, in a couple of decades, you're being treated by a young medical professional, there's a chance he or she was inspired by what they saw during a very special day last week.

Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford welcomed the children of hospital colleagues for "National Bring a Kid to Work Day" on Thursday, April 24.

The event aimed to provide children aged 8-14 with an engaging and educational experience, showcasing the various departments and work done at the hospital.

After a greeting and introduction by Valerie Powell-Stafford, president of Saint Francis, the children took guided tours of hospital departments, including inpatient cardiology, radiology, the ;aboratory, and a Trinity Health Of New England EMS ambulance.

They were able to meet with colleagues in each department to learn about the various career roles available in healthcare.

They also took part in workshops and demonstrations, including basic medical skills and hospital technology showcases.

The children learned CPR basics, what an echocardiogram entails, and heard from the trauma team about "Let’s Not Meet By Accident," an educational program on the dangers of impaired driving.

“We were so excited to welcome this group of young people to Saint Francis,” said Powell-Stafford. “We designed the day, not only to educate and inspire, but give kids the chance to explore the diverse world of health care and learn about the important role our hospital plays in caring for the community.

"We look forward to hosting this event annually and providing unforgettable experiences for our colleagues and their children, demonstrating how we live our Mission of being a transforming, healing presence to those we serve.”

Saint Francis Hospitalwas founded in 1897, and it is a member of Trinity Health of New England and Trinity Health. It is a Level 1 Trauma Center, a 617-bed hospital, a teaching hospital, and the largest Catholic hospital in New England.
