CT Woman Killed When Valet Driver's Foot Slips From Brake, Police Say

ATLANTA, GA — A woman was killed overnight Saturday in an accident when a valet driver mistakenly pressed the gas instead of the brake while attempting to park a vehicle.

Atlanta police say the driver was trying to put a car into park and attend to the next vehicle at 1057 Junpier Street. Instead, the driver "failed to put the vehicle completely in park as he exited," the agency added.

The vehicle rolled forward, and the driver jumped back into the vehicle to stop it. However, his foot slipped from the brake and hit the gas pedal, Atlanta police said.

The car accelerated about 10 to 15 feet and hit a group of pedestrians who were standing next to another car. The woman who died was pinned between both vehicles. EMS crews responded to the scene and transported the victim to Grady Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead around 12:57 a.m. April 15.
Five other pedestrians were also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Atlanta police spokesperson Stephanie Brown said the agency is not releasing the woman's identity at this time, but The Atlanta Journal-Constitution notes the victim is 33-year-old Connecticut resident Ebony McCrae-Curley.
