CTDOT Outlines Greater Hartford Transit Improvement Ideas: Report

The state Department of Transportation is weighing several projects designed to lessen traffic in the region, the Hartford Courant reported.

GREATER HARTFORD, CT — Connecticut's Department of Transportation is shaping a regional traffic plan for Greater Hartford, and it involves a group of smaller initiatives designed to reduce congestion and improve safety, the Hartford Courant reported.

The Courant's report outlined several projects the department hopes to start in the next two or three years, among them a redesign of downtown Hartford's Pulaski Circle and improvements to the region's transit systems.

Around 120 suggestions for projects made by the public, urban planners and experts will be studied further, and officials expect a list of final recommendations by the end of this year, the Courant reported.

"We're trying to think of the future and not just the way it was done in the past," Casey R. Hardin, a consultant on the state's study, told the Courant.
