The expansion, made possible by $1.8 million in Congressionally directed funding secured in 2023, will significantly enhance services at InterCommunity’s location at 40 Coventry St. in the North End of Hartford, wrote InterCommunity.
The agency said U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy played "pivotal roles in advocating for this funding at the federal level."

The goal, the agency said, is reducing health disparities in the community by increasing access to essential services.
“I’m proud that $1.8 million in federal funding is supporting InterCommunity’s expanded primary and mental health care in a community that is currently facing a shortage of care,” said Blumenthal in a statement.
“This expansion will ensure that more residents in the North End of Hartford have access to the care they need and deserve. I was proud to advocate for this federal funding, and I will continue fighting for investments into the health and well-being of Connecticut residents.”
InterCommunity officials said the expansion was much needed.
“This funding has allowed us to expand our facility and hire qualified staff which will enable us to extend services to 2,000 additional individuals in the North End of Hartford," said Kim Beauregard, president and chief executive officer of InterCommunity.
"With this expansion, we welcome new patients to same-day access to sick and well visits, vaccines, individual and group talk therapy, medications to overcome addiction, and a full range of primary care and behavioral health services. We are incredibly grateful to Senator Blumenthal and Senator Murphy for their support in making this possible.”
InterCommunity Health Care is a "Federally Qualified Health Center" that provides primary care, behavioral health care, and addiction recovery services in the Greater Hartford area. It has centers in Hartford, East Hartford, and South Windsor.
