Hartford Man Dies In Possible Hudson River Drowning

He struggled to stay above water after jumping into the river and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, New York State Police said.

HARTFORD, CT — A Hartford man died from a possible drowning in the Hudson River on Saturday afternoon, New York State Police said.

Wilfredo Arizmendi, 48, of Hartford was boating with his family in the town of Lake Luzerne, New York, when he entered the water to swim.

He began to "exhibit distress" shortly after entering the river and continued to struggle to stay above water after he was thrown a flotation device, police said, citing a preliminary investigation.

Arizmendi was pulled back aboard with the help of another boat in the area and was taken to Glens Falls Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation into his death is ongoing, police said.
