Hartford Prep School To Host Oscar-Nominated Alum

HARTFORD, CT — A private prep school in Hartford is hosting an Oscar-nominated screenwriter to speak at a special fundraiser for scholarships to the school.
Speaking at the April 9 event is David Hemingson, who graduated from the Watkinson School in 1982. He is the screenwriter of "The Holdovers."
It is a 2023 comedy starring Paul Giamatti about a grumpy teacher at a New England prep school who must stay on campus to oversee students left there over Christmas break because they have nowhere else to go.

Watkinson School presents "An Evening with David Hemingson" on Tuesday, April 9.
Hemingson, a Watkinson School alumnus from the class of 1982 and a New Haven native, is a veteran television writer who in 2023 made an "astonishing" feature film debut.

The evening will include an exclusive VIP dinner with Hemingson at 5 p.m., followed by a conversation with Hemingson at 7 p.m.
The event is a fundraiser for Grace Scholars at Watkinson, a fund to enable eighth-grade graduates of Hartford’s Grace Academy to enroll at Watkinson for high school.
The event takes place on Watkinson’s campus at 180 Bloomfield Ave. in Hartford.
The Holdovers earned five Academy Award nominations, including Best Original Screenplay for Hemingson’s work and Best Picture.
