Hartford Schools Open Tuesday After Powerful Convocation Monday
Tuesday's first day of school featured several state and city official visiting with pupils in Connecticut's capital city.
HARTFORD, CT — Schools in Connecticut's capital cityopened under sunny skies Tuesday for the first day of the 2023-24 school year, with a long list of state and local dignitaries in on the affairs.
Gov. Ned Lamont was to greet students as they arrived for the first day of school at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Social Justice Middle School in Hartford.
He was expected to be joined by Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin, Hartford Superintendent of Schools Leslie Torres-Rodriguez, and members of Calling All Brothers, a community group of men from different backgrounds dedicated to uplifting the lives of youths.

Today's opening was preceeded Monday with a power convocation ceremony that aimed to inspire school staff members to excel in the difficult task of educating youth.
The convocation took place at MLK school as well as at Breakthrough Magnet School on 25 Ridgefield St., Hartford.
