Major Bridge Work In East Hartford To Cause I-84 Traffic Headaches

The two-month project starts on Tuesday, May 27, with the area closed off to traffic during the duration of road work.

EAST HARTFORD, CT — Major bridge work off Interstate 84 in East Hartford will have motorists scrambling a bit starting on Tuesday, May 27.

According to the Connecticut Department of Transportation, bridge rehabilitation activities will be performed on Interstate 84 Eastbound Exit 56 in East Hartford starting that day.

State officials said the work, part of a $5.4 million project, will be ongoing through Sunday, July 27.

"The project consists of pin and hanger rehabilitation on various bridges throughout Greater Hartford," wrote the DOT, adding the $5.4 million project.

Because of this, Exit 56 will be closed for the duration of the work.

The DOT said traffic getting off that exit will be detoured to Exit 58 on I-84 Eastbound.

Motorists should turn left onto Roberts Street then turn right to access I-84 Westbound to Exit 56, Governor Street, wrote the DOT.

"Traffic control signing patterns and detour signage will guide motorists through the work zone and detour," wrote the state.

"Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area."
